Come and independently operate a pedicab in downtown Austin!  We have an event packed season approaching ahead of us and we are looking for new riders who want to make as much as $40+ per hour working special event shifts and earning an average of $15-20 per hour on weekday and weekend nights during non-event shifts.


This is a great part time job that allows you to make your own schedule and earn as much cash as you need. The average time commitment is 3 shifts per week, though you can work as much or as little as you want. During special events there will be spurts of non-stop riding so good physical stamina will help you here. If you are not in good shape, give it a few weeks, you will be.

Aside from special events, this truly is easy money. You spend 25% of your time actually doing work and 75% of your time looking for work to do. Most of the time you are either talking to people, being hit on, getting exercise, or kicking back in your cab waiting for people to give a ride to. We are looking for personable people who enjoy talking to people and being social.

I don't want you to have false expectations, there are slow nights, just like waiting tables... but overall you will be more pleased than you could expect from this line of work and the $15 average hourly tips is generally the least you can expect to earn, slow nights included.

 

Just to be clear....

* A pedicab is a bicycle taxi.
* YES! You absolutely need a Texas drivers license. Not my rules, those are the city's rules. If you do not have one... get one fast. Its worth it. That means if you are new to Austin from out of state you have to change over to a Texas license before you can work.
* Yes! You need to have your own mountain bike and you need to be able to fix a flat tire or have the resourcefulness to learn quickly. You need a MOUNTAIN bike with 26" wheels, again those are the city rules for inspection purposes. You can buy one on craigslist for cheap.
* How do I, the business owner, make money off you? I charge you a lease to rent the pedicabs. Our rates are some of the cheapest in town when compared to other pedicab companies. You keep all you make after paying the lease to rent the cab.
* You get paid in tips every time you work.

 

What you need -

*Mountain bike
*Texas Driver's License
*Certified Criminal Background check
*Certified Complete Driving History from the DPS
*Positive Attitude
*Some bike knowledge or are willingness to learn

*Permit to operate pedicab from the City of Austin, please read below.

 

Directions for getting your permit -

  1. Print out this application and fill it out - Application
  2. Visit the DPS on Denton and Airport, Location
  3. Purchase a criminal background check from this location and puchase a driving record history from the DPS website.  It will run you about $35 for both. Please purchase full, complete, certified copies of both.
  4. If you have been in Texas less than 3 years please also purchase these same things from the state of your former residence.
  5. Visit with me to review the application.
  6. Drop application off at City of Austin Ground Transportation Building and take the easiest test in history.  Location
  7. Purchase your permit, $15.
  8. Complete two training shifts.
  9. Complete and pass Red Devil Rides Pedicab Operator's Test.
  10. Ride and make tips.
